Dagnabbit! It wasn't a Rabbit!

My prior post was done without too much enthusiasm. Exhausted from the trip and proud of myself for actually taking it during the "wane" of the pandemic.  YES...that must have been a kangaroo and not a rabbit, and I am thankful for discerning readers.  It was hot and I was tired and when I visited the flower show website I was sad to see that while we visited most of the campus, we missed a bunch of stuff!  Oh well.

Still wearing masks here, although most of the stores now have signs that say if you are vaccinated, the mask-wearing is optional.  I wear them much of the time, but this heat does make me less careful.  Also WHO said even vaccinated people should wear masks and distance with the new DELTA variant running rampant across the globe.  I am reading "The Premonition, a Pandemic Story" by Michael Lewis.  It certainly tells the story of how hard researchers work and how stupid the government bureaucratic process is.  Brought back memories of incidents that I encountered when working as a Fed.  Of course,  my work did not impact lives to any extent.  Our Center for Disease Control is sadly crippled.

My cough has returned...ever so slightly.  I have been monitoring it for a week and going back on the proton pump inhibitor (which sounds like a mechanical device, right?).  I will email my specialist who is an hour's drive away and see what is going on and what we do from here.

I finally contracted with a cleaning service this week.  I helped my mother clean her house starting at 10-years-old and except for the 2 years in Indonesia where I had a maid, cook, and night watchman, I have been the cleaner of my various abodes for decades.  I am just tired of vacuuming, mopping, and dusting an almost 3,000 square foot house, and I have let great corners get covered in spider webs and dust.  It is a VERY expensive service and the lady said that I could change my bi-weekly schedule to a monthly schedule down the road if I felt it was overkill with just two old folks living in the house.  I will also have to adjust to having a stranger poke through my nooks and crannies, although they did say they try to send the same person each time.

My garden is blooming in all its glory just before the oven days start.  I will post photos on my other blog.

Grandkids arrived for just a few hours on Sunday squeezing in their precious limited free time to visit us!  I am so blest!  Hope your weekend is cool, comfortable, and full of love.

  1. I looked at the previous post to see what the creature was. I'd say it's a kangaroo because of the pouch, but at first glance, I thought bunny. I stopped wearing my mask recently. I think I'll have to start wearing it again, although I'm fully vaccinated. It will be difficult to go back to it because it's so comfortable to be without it and it's so hot. Having a cleaning service should be a great help. Your house is very large.

    Love,
    Janie

  4. the flower at the bottom is a mallow? yes, the grocery store and the Walmart have both taken down their masks required signs but like you I still wear mine in stores.

my house is only half that size and I let things go for a long time. we had a cleaning service come in back when we were still working and could afford it but we finally canceled because they would always come in the later afternoon and would still be here when we were ready to shut down for the day.

  5. Masks are a thing here still. Such a nuisance in the heat now but we are not boiling like some parts of North America.

I hope you get relief for the cough again before it gets too bad.

  6. I agree on masks and hope you find other answers for your cough to avoid it getting worse. I've only had someone clean the Tucson house when we had VRBO renters and I found out I wasn't as picky about dust, etc. as they were. I tend to not see a lot of what would bother others.

  7. We used a cleaning service after my surgery years ago... but I really don't like having strangers cleaning my house. DH and I do OK on the dusting, vacuuming, mopping, etc. (when our backs aren't giving us trouble), but cleaning bathrooms (shower walls and bathtubs, etc.) is getting difficult as we age. We are thinking about getting someone in just to thoroughly clean the bathrooms maybe once a month? Our house is not quite as large as yours (2700 sq ft)... but it keeps us on our toes to keep it up. As for the masks, we intend to continue ours for a while. We don't really mind them, and as you said, with the variants still around, better to be safe than sorry. I've heard some people say that masked people live in fear. I don't think this is true. We really aren't fearful, just cautious.

    1. Not only cautious for ourselves but far more for others that cannot get the vaccine.

  8. VT restrictions were lifted when the vaccination rate hit 80%. It took a week or two to start seeing lots of people gong without masks. I do still wear mine in indoor places. The variants are still a concern to me even though I am fully vaccinated. I had a monthly cleaning person for a year or two while I was taking care of my mother and her home. I probably would have better off sendding her to clean at my mom's. Since I have downsized considerably, I am still able to keep up with keeping things up. I do miss the spaceI used to have though not the upkeep.

  9. Yes, a roo. Yes too, if I read Ellen's blog right, you will have to bring those succulents in every winter. Yes three, having a housekeeper not only saved our marriage, but my sanity. If I want something cleaner, I do it myself. So good to see you posting.

  10. We have the same thing here, if fully vaccinated you can skip the mask, but I'm sure there are people who are not and are still not wearing a mask. I'll keep wearing mine in grocery stores. It's getting hellishly hot here, with at least two more days of this heat ahead!

  11. It's so nice that I can rely on seeing new blog posts from some of my favorite bloggers from the past. That first image is stunning. Great capture!

  12. I have stopped wearing a mask in doors unless it is required, like on public transportation.
We are at 99 here today, (Oh we just hit 100!)but the forecast is for 105 on Sunday and 111 on Monday. Those temps are unheard of here in Seattle. Please be careful, people. Wild fire is a real danger.

  13. I hired us a maid in the early 1990's. One of us can't seem to clean up after herself. Best thing I have ever done for the marriage. We still have a maid come and clean twice a month.

  14. Like George, we have a cleaning lady every other week. Best money we spend all month!

  15. It's wonderful that the grands came. Praying your cough resolves with or without medical intervention.

  16. My daughter told me of a friend and her family who are all fully vaccinated flying to Las Vegas and contracting COVID although they all got a very mild case of it. Therefore, yes, I'm wearing a mask if I'm going to be where there are a lot of people.
