Nothing Stays the Same

I certainly find the above the hardest lesson for me to learn.  I no sooner get into a comfortable rhythm and then I lose the beat or the beat is arhythmic.  I think this is the hardest lesson for us to learn as we age.  Everything, good or bad, will end or begin anew and we have very little control over it all.

I stopped blogging and did not miss it much.  I did miss reading the comments of blogger buddies, though.  I sometimes read a few but felt as if I was listening in on a time warp.

We are having the third day of a nasty winter storm here in the mid-Atlantic.  Of course, most of the United States is experiencing some of this disaster as planes and trains have stopped or been postponed.  We got 8 inches here and today is a blistering 12 degrees F with a wind!  I ended up cleaning a closet and sorting tiny shells to pass the time.

This past Monday I was supposed to begin radiation treatments for a breast cancer discovered before the holidays.  I am very lucky in that the surgery removed all of the cancer but other issues arose such as a branch blockage on my heart.  I also discovered that there is a epidemic of breast cancer among middle aged women, so I will not complain as I am pushing 80!  The increase seems to be due to pollution issues and perhaps stress in living these days!

Our holidays were unusually busy perhaps due to my diagnosis and also due to new friends. I cannot complain but I am glad the holiday rush is behind us.  Now onto reading all my blogger friends.

  1. Thanks for your comment and good luck. Mrs. F.G. went through the breast cancer scare 20 years or more ago, hope it works out as well for you. Now she's dealing with diabetes.

  3. I was happy to see your post. You were missed. But a cancer diagnosis is scary, and just before the holidays is especially hard. I do hope that is under control . We're still taking down Christmas here, along with going to appointments. I will have a knee replacement later this month.
After some severe weather earlier, we were just dealing with dreary rain, and now will have a break and maybe even some blue sky. We are fortunate.

  4. So good to see you back but not good news to hear of your diagnosis. I hope that all will be well in the future. Those storms sound horrific so stay safe and warm. It is a good pastime sorting shells. We are having a hot and humid summer.

  5. Hoping for a complete recovery from the breast cancer for you. My friend down the street is also battling it though she is younger than me. It was a year of medical procedures for me last year as well. shit seems to hit the fan in our 70s. I've missed your posts. Love the little container of shells.

  6. Good luck with the breast cancer treatment. I'm in my second go-round, the first time being in 2001. I do believe in some way it is stress-induced. Anyway, I'm in my 70s as well and grateful to have made it this far :)

  8. I'm glad you're back! I have always enjoyed your posts. I'm sorry to hear about the health issues. I'm headed into my third year of serious health challenges and I'm not quite 70 yet. 😑. Must say I'm ready for more fun entertainment. 🙂.

  9. Glad to see your post but scary regarding the medical issues. It is indeed part of life and if we are lucky, elder life. When I've turned other ages, I didn't think much about it, but 80 was different, like the beginning of real old age, assuming no serious illnesses earlier. I guess that warrants a sigh *s*

  11. So sorry to hear about your cancer and the blockage. How scary. Is the blockage why the radiation is postponed? My sister had the radiation. I think she had six sessions. I've not heard of a branch blockage before. My cancer (2017) was endometrial carcinoma. I did not get radiation - chemo only.

  12. Oh no... I'm so sorry for all you are going through. I am finding that more health problems are popping up as we get older. It's disconcerting and scary. I'll be thinking about you and wishing and hoping the fastest, easiest recovery for you.
