I am in my mid-70s and my daughter's family of pre-teens and teenagers is very much into physical activity. My daughter planned a "glamping" trip over the weekend as a Mother's Day event. The trip included sleeping in fancy Teepees that had electricity and indoor plumbing and spending the day doing things like kayak/canoeing, bicycle riding, and rope climbing. I participated in the first two but have outgrown ziplining and tree climbing! (In retrospect I think the trip was to keep the rest of her family happy while pretending it was a Mother's Day event. Also, it was her Mother's Day of course.)
We all are vaccinated or in the case of my daughter's family recovered from COVID and they are soon to get their shots. Most of it was outdoors and masking was only when they were in groups of others.
My son and his wife joined us as well, but even they had trouble keeping up.
Below a montage of memories from the event and wishing those of you who have children, a belated Happy Mother's Day and perhaps, one that was very simple where they just took you out to dinner.
Wow, that's quite an amazing camp trip. Happy Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteThe lighted teepee with that door looks awesome, but that doesn't seem like a weekend geared to a 75-year-mom. But it may have been better than our 15-minute gift opening in the garage.
ReplyDeleteMy Mother's Day was perfect. The youngest phoned from Oregon, and the eldest spent the previous day with us both.
ReplyDeleteWell, if the rest of the family is happy, then Mother is probably happy too!
ReplyDeleteMy mother's day was quiet... with the kids calling or texting, etc. and grandson going out to pick up dinner. This is good since going out to eat is not yet an option at our house. But I had to laugh at your 'glamping'... as my daughter's family is like that too... and have mentioned 'glamping' to me (not for Mother's day). I wasn't too sure about it either. I "used" to like camping, but find it isn't so enticing as I get older. But I am a bit intrigued with zip-lining.
ReplyDeleteCor, what a mother day, that seems ok. Not for me, ha ha haa.
ReplyDeleteYup, a day to mostly sit back and watch the action. That can be fun too.
ReplyDeleteI cooked brunch for my family, and then they all went off to other activities. So did we. That was good too.
My daughter is a dedicated non-outdoorsy person. I am the one who takes my grandson out for hikes and kayaking and biking. Mt daughter asks me why I don't sit home and knit the way grandmothers are supposed to do. It was hard to have to curtail outdoor fun but I hope to be back in action by summer. But who knows.
ReplyDeleteAww, that sounds like a wonderful Mother's day! How nice of your daughter to coordinate that glamping experience and how very nice of you to participate in the activities that you felt comfortable in participating.
ReplyDeleteQuite the challenge! You did well!
ReplyDeleteWow! That was definitely an active adventure. Love the pictures, and I'm glad you survived in one piece. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt does look like fun, although i'd have needed a week to recover.
ReplyDeleteWe took Grandma out to lunch, as always.
Happy Mother's Day, a few days late.
Amazing and ambitious Motherday
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice note this morning.
ReplyDeleteYou were so brave to do all that.
Enjoy and enjoy. Mine are all busy being totally grown up with careers.
ReplyDeleteenjoy these outings because soon the grandkids will be in colleges in different cities and then careers.
ReplyDeleteThere comes a time when we don't physically participate in all the activities our youthful family members enjoy. I can only think how much fun it would be but have to accept my limitations -- I'm older than you.
ReplyDeleteMother's Day I had to settle for a long phone call from my east coast daughter. When my son in the Midwest tried to call while I was still talking to her he said he'd call the next day which suited both of us just fine. I liked spreading it out over time.
I am so glad there was no "zip lining" or bungee jumping when I was growing up. My Mom did tell us a story about a home made zip line in a hay field on their farm (that was probably mid 1920's) - so it's been around just wasn't as popular I guess.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the teepee with indoor plumbing. I could go with that. Good for you for going along. I don't think I could have handled the zip lining though. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteSure does look like it is geared for the younger ones but at least you were with family. My family were interstate and we had a quiet dinner at home.
ReplyDeleteI'm out of the zip lining etc. business but camping with the amenities might be fun. I had a wonderful dinner with kids and bonus lunch with my son as well. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun! Can you share the location/name of business?
ReplyDeleteJust google "glamping" and the state you are in or near.
