Sexy

What is sexy?  Well, how do I define sexy.  That thing that gets your heart beating and your head spinning and your juices flowing. That which makes you glad to be alive and encourages you to throw caution to the wind and do something out of the norm. That thing that makes you forget all the mistakes and portends a fresh start.  Below in no particular order are things I find sexy.

• Investigative journalists who are in it for the truth because there is usually not a lot of money.

• People who are preservationists. People who preserve land, man’s structures, old ideas, and memories.

• People who fight for the truth and are willing to die for it.

 • Something very strong protecting something weaker, the lion and the lamb, the marine and the child refugee, the teacher and the bullied, the policeman and the homeless woman.

 • The writer that crafts words into a picture of such beauty you cannot get it out of your mind. The actor that touches the heart of humanity in a single character’s line. The painter that sees with a stigmatic yet clear eye.

• The human determination to understand and find a middle ground.

OK. Your turn, what is sexy to you?

  1. Looking out for one another is definitely sexy. Bernie Sanders is sexy! Those who fight for justice in a scary world, and those who give to others when they don't have much themselves. :-)

  3. I tend to think sexy is something that makes me want to engage in the prime biological imperative. unfortunately, my juices stopped flowing easily a while back.

  5. Someone who has a dream and studies hard to make it come true - the doctor, the writer, the teacher, the scientist . . . . . . anyone with sight to see and hopes to fulfill. Blessings from Dalamory

  6. WOW! Fabulous question. I don't find anyone sexy who is trying to be sexy. Often I'm taken with people who are willing to show vulnerability as well as strength.

  9. Your thughts on sexy also remind me of courage. I think it's sexy to give of oneself without needing affirmation from anyone else.

  10. All I can think to add is my lost love Ronald Andrew. Now he was sexy as you defined it: "That thing that gets your heart beating and your head spinning and your juices flowing".

  13. Well, remembering Harper Lee, I know a lot of people thought Atticus Finch was sexy (altho' that might have had something to do with Gregory Peck too.) Also, maybe it's partly a guy thing, but I agree with SH ... honesty and vulnerability.

  14. Oh, I am so mundane. Beards are sexy. LOL Kindness is sexy. Giving is sexy. Oh, small minded me, I disagree about preservationists.

    1. If we do not preserve the bad and the good how will we know when we were wrong and when we were right.

  15. Loved this...as well as the comments, Tabor. :)
Sexy, for me, is to offer all your love and attention to another being, and to be at the receiving end of such an immense love.
Sexy is also having your heart well up with gratitude at every chance where you notice the little mercies, comforts, ease and opportunities that life provides you.
Sexy is truimphing against interesting/challenging/impossible odds to realise dreams--no matter how big or small they are.
And Sexy is opening up to the mysteries beyond the known and be amazed at the immensity of it all.

  16. Hmm... to me sexy means it makes you want to have sex. So I can't say any of these things are sexy. Maybe irresistible would be a better word for me to use.
    What is irresistible to me?
Kindness. Humility. Defending the underdog. Passion. Warmth Generosity. I guess many of these traits are traits that allow the person to care for others over themselves. That, to me, is irresistible.

  17. Everybody said it more beautifully than I could. I especially like what Kat just said. Kindness is always a turn on.

  19. Great question, since today just about everything is presented as being sexy -- and even rated as to the degree of being so! I thought I didn't equate the word sexy with anything other than sexual acts, but as I thought about it, I realized acts involving each of the senses influence my perception of sexy. Just about all the attributes described above may enhance the degree to which I perceive sexiness. Music to my tastes is a major sexy factor.
