There have been funerals in parking lots, funeral parlors have been overbooked and turned away customers. Los Angeles reduced its air quality regulations because so many people were being cremated!
AND if this was a hoax, it was a good one, fooling everyone across the globe!
Both hubby and I cried as the Spirituals were sung while all of our new officials stood quietly. The Washington Mall and reflecting pool with its thousands of American flags waving in the gentle winter breeze were the perfect backdrop as the sun set. Someone had gotten the entire Mall lit with soft lights as well!
If you listened carefully, that warm breeze across the continent was a global sigh of relief that a gentle, smart, generous, purposed adult had taken the reigns of our nation. A person who was surrounded by loving family and staff and not people who wanted a piece of the pie. Of course, there will be more storms before the calm, but I have faith in our Democracy.
I can assure you that there is much relieved sighing to the north of you.
ReplyDeleteI could not stop the tears watching that memorial -- such a different, kinder, gentler approach.
ReplyDeleteI had my second good friend die of COVID yesterday. Many from our small town have been diagnosed with COVID. It is not a hoax. I cannot get an appointment for the vaccine within a 100 mile radius.
ReplyDeleteWatching the inauguration right now. Joe Biden has a hard road ahead but I have hope that he can help in uniting our country.
ReplyDeleteI certainly have more faith in our democracy, and our country, and certainly our leadership, than I did two weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Tabor. I felt the relief from here, I think many people in many countries felt the same.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We were both touched by those moments by the reflecting pool. Your words mirror that.
ReplyDeleteThe ceremony was moving, an acknowledgement of so many lost.
ReplyDeleteRelief has great impact.
ReplyDeletea global sigh of relief. couldn't have been said better.
ReplyDeleteBoy, the Orange One sure did dent my belief. Yes, leaders of all those other countries agree with us once again.
ReplyDeleteI have not stopped being emotional over that wonderful ceremony. I am so happy to begin this next chapter in American life. I can tear up just remembering Amanda's poem.
ReplyDeletePraying for us all, that all shall be well.
ReplyDeleteWe all were so pleased when Biden took over. Hope you two are well.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a beautiful day of relief and happiness. I appreciated the evening celebration also. I think it would be nice if they made that part of the celebration from now on. I can imagine how relieved the rest of the world is. Uuummm... well... maybe not Russia or North Korea that Trump, for some reason, catered to.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written post. Good luck in the future USA.
ReplyDeleteI seem to be transitioning too.
ReplyDeleteWell said! This is a welcome break from the previous daily chaos but much lies ahead with which we must cope if we are to retain our democratic republic I think.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that. Biden seems very radical to the last presidency, undoing much of what Trump had laid down. I do hope that this is the turning of the corner.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful post to facilitate my re-entry into blogging. I hope we didn't sigh with relief too soon, though the thought of rolling up my sleeves and beginning the dirty work of clearing up after the Orange Menace really appeals. It was good to spend a few hours making peace with each other though, instead of war, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteRelief is true, but so much more lies ahead in the years to come to preserve our democratic republic.
