Seven Good Things in No Particular Order

Since the "visit of the virus" there have been some unexpected changes:

1. My son and daughter-in-law have met dozens of people in their neighborhood, mostly people who walk dogs like they do.

2. The garden supply catalogs and retails stores are sold out as people re-discover backyard gardening.

3. My septic system is benefiting as we have learned to count toilet paper squares to be frugal with our small stockpile.

4. With the box delivery of random vegetables and fruits, Hubby and I are now eating veggies that I avoided and now I think we are more broad-minded in our taste as well as healthier. I get more veggies than I usually use, and thus that is also good forcing me to eat fiber!

5. Free-lance repairmen have become valuable at our house and I think we are valuable to their gig list of work as they face unemployment. We have had a fuse box repaired when hubby cut through the electric cord of his hedge trimmer, a boat transom repaired that was ages old and the electric box to our yard gate fixed.

6. The grandkids actually sit in a chair in their driveway and visit rather than spending time in their bedrooms, even though we see them less.

7. My house cleaning is no longer smash-dab but thorough and careful.  (Unfortunately, no one sees it!)

What are some good things you are enjoying while we work on staying healthy?

  1. Beautiful post, a lovely time. What do you asked, I can smell things that I never did before.

  2. Our life is surprisingly much the same. We still do our own grocery shopping once a week. We have to get our fresh supply of fruits and vegies, which we have always eaten. It does requite much more thought and planning and cleaning however. Tom just did his own repair on a toilet after making a late evening dash to Home Depot and an almost empty store.
We have learned how to Zoom to visit with our breakfast group, and I have taken to Face Timing with my granddaughter.
We do our normal housecleaning once a week, and I have not been motivated to do deep cleaning. I do that outside in the garden instead.

  3. What an uplifting post. As a matter of fact, one big thing I’m almost done with is going through our file cabinet which was stuffed to its gills. I’ve so far tossed out two packages of outdated papers and organized the files. Awesome!

  4. Even staying home with the pandemic has not caused me to take on any household cleaning projects. I'm lazy that way. Love that pretty picture of whatever is sizzling in the pan. :-)

    1. Sorry, hit enter before i was done.

How i do enjoy lists that look on the bright side!

The changes have brought mixed blessings. Some days i have a bit less work, which can be restful and stressful at the same time, as bills do still come whether the work is available or not.

  6. Number six, my grandkids have a huge deck in their backyard and I have a big patio. We gather masked and apart and talk. Wahoo!

  7. Maybe someday I'll find something positive from it. I'll keep looking just in case.

  8. Considering the time of year, when it has not been great weather, life is not hugely different here. We miss our almost weekly family dinners, our weekly coffee dates with friends, and our exercise classes. The classes were just beginning again when the lockdown hit. Oddly enough, I kind of miss grocery shopping. It's not that it was a highlight exactly, but I don't mind shopping (Sue doesn't like it), and I'd usually find myself in the store several times a week.

  9. Produce has become more important, a bonus of these pandemic days. I like the soak, wash, rinse and ready food without the worry of contamination like boxes and such have. I also notice that food shopping now has a dark shadow over it, as in not liking it much these days. I like my container garden is larger this year.

  10. The isolation rules are eased here and we can see the grandkids now. I won’t take their presence in our lives for granted any more.

  11. We are still isolating pretty much from everyone... since DH just finished going through radiation. We'll probably continue to do this for some time even if restrictions are lifted. But we have learned to Skype, Facetalk, and order groceries online (which is very convenient even though we never minded grocery shopping). As much as I miss seeing (and hugging) family and friends (especially grandkids), I don't mind staying home and am beginning to like having DH and grandson always around.

  12. Nothing much changed in my world except I learned to maintain a website which meant although I did less than usual physically, I went to bed exhausted every night. We are coming out of lockdown now and I'm saddened by the effect the virus has had on peoples' confidence.

  15. Nice post, positive. I learned how to shop on line for everything. We learned how to zoom our families in Sydney and Melbourne. we eat the same stuff as usual but more of it and put on weight. Learned how to do jigsaw puzzles on my iPad.

  16. I bought some of those radishes last fall at a farm market but I didn't think to cook them. I hadn't planned on ever trying them again but now I am curious.

  17. Not a whole lot different here for me. I haven’t been in a store since March so am doing pickups, ordering more incidentals on the net. Younger neighbors shop for me when they go to store though I haven’t needed much since I prepared in advance. They unexpectedly began fostering a newborn so we text back and forth some. Another young couple has their first, a year old now, so found some new unused items I had and was able to gift both couples — puzzle-like foam pads to cover hardwood floor area. Contact with my family has pretty much been by phone and net sites so not much different on that count given the distance that separates us. Talk some with friend who lives an hour away but not many other family or friends still living. Using my usual interests as mood strikes me — reading, following news, occasional TV movies. Need to do my taxes and could undertake some more productive activities here.
