We did drive up one afternoon to attend daughters "Cheer" "challenge." These are held in large, noisy arenas with expensive junk food and lots of
If you are not familiar with this venue, it is something that
According to one consumer report, 67% of the participants suffer injuries. It is probably one of the most dangerous sports around. The girls also get costumes that are flirty and youthful looking with bows in the hair, they wear lots of makeup as if they were showgirls...or something else, some wear artificial wigs so they can look even more "Stepford."
I am not a total downer here, because my granddaughter eats like a horse and without this intensive exercise, she would have a weight problem. She also has a core body that is strong and solid and she is HEALTHY. She also loves this and has few other things she loves as much! She has learned a lot about teamwork and pushing through when things seem tough.
The award ceremony after a long day is lengthy and noisy. All those hormones on a padded mat. Glad I was up in the stands. This pretty much took up the whole day. Wish I would have thought of this as an investment a while back!
I'd have been ready to go long before the awards.ReplyDelete
Kudos to you for being there. One of my grandgirls does assorted sports and we have to sit on those infernal bleacher seats. But she's in good shape too.ReplyDelete
If I was that age today, then I'd for sure go for it. Amazing fun
You don't seem totally enamored. It is a very upscale activity.ReplyDelete
I would approach this event with mixed emotions also. I would much rather see our girls playing soccer or running track or playing basketball, or whatever, but as you stated, there is an upside as well. Good on you for being there anyway.ReplyDelete
Wow- does look strenuous n like a money eater there! Congrats to your girl.ReplyDelete
My girls did Colorguard ( I used to call Flag Tossing ), n won at competitions that included percussion ensembles! ( head-aches). That too was a money eater, but kept them busy n they got to do parades n football, as well as being in the marching band!.
Tonight I'm going to see my 2nd grandson play clarinet in the Xmas concert, which his mom did at his age! She did go on to do some symphony...
She will remember that you took the time to be there, they do notice and it means a lot to them.ReplyDelete
Those young girls put a lot of effort into their sport...and it does teach them to be a team player.ReplyDelete
The only party I will be attending during the Festive Season will be my landlords' annual Christmas party.....this is a three acre property...their home is up one end and my small cabin down the other end. It's about the only time of the year that we socialise...which is fine with me....and with them, too, probably. I'm putting together a large cheese, fruit and nut platter, plus an antipasto platter to be part of the party fare.
My daughter was horrified a few years back at how sexy the costumes were for cheerleaders. She hadn't been expecting it from what it used to be. They also are more gymnastic oriented from what I've read-- leading to injuries that cheerleaders in my day would never have had to worry about where high kicks were about the extent of their cheer.ReplyDelete
I never heard of such an event. It does sound like it might be a little strenuous for some, and fun for others. Thanks for introducing me to it. I guess. :-)ReplyDelete
Cheering has become an athletic event and I think they even air competitions on TV or have in the past. I would have a hard time attending an event like that just because of the crowds, but I would want to support my granddaughter if she were into to that and it is exercise, which should always be encouraged in these days of working eyes and thumbs mostly.ReplyDelete
It is am investment. We have drama here...that too will take up the whole day. It's worth it.ReplyDelete
It looks so dangerous to me. I’d have tohold my breath watching!ReplyDelete
At this moment I am ready to do my breakfast, after having myReplyDelete
breakfast coming again to read further news.
