My Ray of Hope

I try hard to be more sociable. It is not that I dislike people, but on some days I do. I have no patience for their small mindedness, their self-interest, and their righteousness. Of course, I have these same traits some days and have no room to pretend I am better. I do think I am more open-minded than some. And of course as I watched the hearings for the new nominee for the Supreme Court, I realize I am totally prejudiced. I have met this creep/type in my earlier life and my instincts tell me he is scum. I try hard to cram a logical thought and a fair approach into this and it will not fit, only pure raw emotion and hatred.  I turn off the TV.

The "other side" tells me that all  the "little brown" immigrants are here to take their/our jobs  by accepting lower wages and then also living  off our  social welfare programs and do not see  the contradiction in their thinking.  They do not have anger for the rich white boss  that creates the situation of lower and lower pay.  And the same  "other side" tells me they knew our current candidate and Republican Sheriff when he was a cop and that he used to give young girls traffic tickets and then tell  them he would tear them up for  "favors."  They think this is amusing.

I saw Michael Moore's movie Fahrenheit 11/9. Moore is fat, messy, and a tease. The conservatives hate his guts and some liberals are embarrassed by his tenacity. The movie is pretty typical of his prior documentaries and shows his lack of power and finesse. But it links all of this strange political culture  under a magnifying lens and he criticizes both Democrats and Republicans with only a fair and very brief nod to Bernie Saunders and a chunk of time to  the young  veteran  from West Virginia that  is running for office.  Would love to  hear or  read our last President's response to how he  was thrown  under the bus in this  documentary.

...and women continue to be insulted every single day by those old white guys in  power.

I do see a ray of hope in all  of this.  I watch the advertisements on TV  and the characters and lovers and families in them look like  the real world.  This must drive the  racists and misogynists crazy!  At least that is my ray of hope.

Sorry, must be the meds I  am on.  I  do feel  so much better after vomiting all  this bile,  though.

  1. Oh, my! There is a lot to digest here, Tabor. Don't feel bad, you are channeling the rage of so many that it's no wonder you had to throw it all up on the page like that. I want to see 11/9 and had already heard about the Obama criticism. I think he did the very best job he could do under the circumstances. And I can barely stand to watch TV these days for the reasons you mentioned. What a dark time for our country right now. :-(

  2. sometimes we just have to get it out. and yesterday Trump tells a female reporter she doesn't think, never does. I pin my hopes on the mid-terms and if we don't get control of at least on house of Congress we are headed into a dark age for sure.

  3. I have seen all of Michael Moore's documentaries except 11/9. I heard someone say that after seeing it, she was in such despair, she just wanted to crawl under the covers and not come out. I have decided not to see it as I don't want to see how much worse things may become. I try not to watch the news, but it is hard to escape. This morning a talking head said that if the Presidential election were to be held today, Trump would win. I am heading for the covers.

  4. LOL...not the meds, but a reality. I'm not pulling my blankets up yet, but the TV and News is on very infrequently here. Please feel better.

  5. ... oh, but I enjoy your musings. I thought Michael Moore was both relevant and funny in the beginning, but I've gotten tired of his increasingly strident shtict. As for cable news, the more I watch the crazier I get, so I've been avoiding lately.

  8. I tried to watch the hearings last Thursday with an open mind. I did OK until the nominee unleashed his hateful, partisan, out of control tirade. Putting all sexual assault charges aside, the man showed himself to be unfit for a seat on the SC. Then the old white guys on that side of the panel all erupted too. From what I have been reading, it seems they are quite fearful of losing the power they seem to think God granted them. It's hard to give up privilege when you've always had it.

  9. I also tried to watch the hearings. I turned it off finally thinking God help us. A collection of disturbed and disturbing men. I was surprised how long it took me to redirect my anger into something more positive. I cleaned my house, I'd like to be able to clean house of those people too. Please vote.

  10. Good point. I also notice TV ads appear more real world than what is in the news.
The climate in America is such that anyone not going along with the current outrage, is bullied, and worse. That is wrong in every way. You, Tabor, from this small blog world, I feel no matter what my opinion, you wouldn't caste me out as evil, tell me off in colorful ways, but listen and consider my view point.

  11. I find myself wondering how long this (political climate) can go on? I just want it to stop...
Perhaps it's time for a third party who can offer a decent candidate and who is willing to compromise to come into the picture. Right now I don't see Republicans or Democrats backing down on anything. But then, I know nothing about politics - except sadly, it seems to be a dirty business. Don't you wonder if it's all some sort of plan to undermine our country?

  12. I don't know what else to say, but I am nodding my head.

  13. I notice a lot of English bloggers will not talk politics for fear of upsetting their readers, basically I think this wrong. I cannot understand how such men get into power and the misogyny of such men in America and the rest of the world is slowly revealed. It needs digging out from the rubbish where it has festered for so long. So get angry ;)

  14. "...and women continue to be insulted every single day by those old white guys in power."

Great minds think alike. I have been rather down the past few days and I finally realized after binging all day Monday on a Netflix show (I never do that) that all this crap has me upset. Not quite as bad as the election, but still upset. Disheartening. My journal pages get my wrath so I'm very impressed how you have expressed yourself here. I hope you, and I, feel better very soon. I don't hold out for that anytime soon.
