Winter is less than a month away, although our fall has been oddly warm. It was 80F two days ago! I got my daughter-in-laws bulb-garden-birthday-gift almost complete and looking forward to what she will see in the spring.
I came back to find that my clematis has put forth two blooms and my cosmos seeds (volunteers) have sprouted as seedlings. They will die, but it was a surprise.
I also am enjoying the abundance of our garden that remains.
This Swiss chard is huge but very tender.
Lots of lettuce and bok choy for salads and side dishes and fried rice.
The last of these sweet long peppers are almost too pretty to eat.
And it does look like strawberry jam in the spring. This bed is out of control!
Beautiful. We had to leave our garden before it froze but we took with us what we could. I am thinking of planting one down here for the renters who come in although Tucson gets freezes also. We have tried to provide herbs and sometimes that works. Sometimes the rabbits get them all.
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy, happy bed of strawberries. It leaves me smiling ,,,as did the lettuces. I used to plant lettuce and chives as borders around things.

ReplyDeleteMy mom had a sign which said "The only thing I grow in my garden is tired" (not very original I'm sure) I inherited her gardening ability.

ReplyDeleteI had no idea you had such a prolific veggie garden! How wonderful to have your own produce. Already, I'm missing the heirloom tomatoes I got in the summer at market! What a lovely gift that keeps giving for your d-i-l.
ReplyDeleteWe had a killing frost a few weeks ago, but this summer weather in November is delightful. How nice that you are still in enjoying a harvest.

ReplyDelete80 degrees! Those days are long gone around here, as is most of the vege garden, except for beets and carrots still in the ground.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love Swiss chard but it is such a mess to prepare and it take a ton of it to make a small amount for a meal, just like spinach. Only Swiss Chard is much better.

ReplyDeleteYes, G signed us up, reluctantly he says, for a fundraiser Saturday Morning at 9. I have a feeling that we will go from there to the Park where he starts work at the museum at noon. No going home for me. I'll take a book. LOL
That is such a thriving garden. Our yard will probably need a lot of work after our long absence.

ReplyDeleteCan't believe your garden now! I want free strawberries- Mine tend to come in one at a time. hope the runners I stored live until spring to plant- I'm still in flower pots. In western MA, someone reported sprouting Crocus because of the warm fall after a freeze.
