Used Books
While perusing the local used book store in a college town in the mountains of Virginia last week, I just had to take a photo of this top book shelf in the store. Someone has a dark sense of humor...do not ignore the careful placement of the book in the middle. (You may get a closer look by clicking on the photo.) I did not get out of this place without buying three books of course, but none of the above were in my bag.
If you read my blog, you will understand why I selected all of the titles above. I will always buy books even though I can read electronically on at least three devices.

It is quite hard to downsize where my bookshelves are concerned. A step at a time is my mantra.
ReplyDeleteDespite my love of my Kindle, I still buy paper books also. For research I much prefer paper but also some titles grab my attention and used bookstores are the best places for that to happen. My problem is my overloaded bookshelves and there is no wall space for another one. I do some double stacking but then can't see the titles I might want. With books though, there are never enough
ReplyDeleteBooks to me are the perfect self-gift. Interesting selections.
ReplyDeleteI greatly enjoyed A Greater Journey, and probably would have bought the Sontag just for the Goya etching on the cover.
ReplyDeleteThat book in the center says it all. No, i can't get rid of books easily, either.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of prejudices, I refuse to put Cosby's books out. We get several a week, and I move them straight to the"I'll-take-em-all" father Joe pile. Who knows what Father Joe does with them, but he guarantees to find homes for everything we send him.
ReplyDeleteI know who I am voting for. Nope, I don't know what I am going to do if my candidate doesn't make it.
The ladies who do shallow water walking at our pool are all losing inches. Only half an hour a week, and they are new head to toes.
I do a fair bit of reading via ereader.. it's so convenient but I buy books at yard sales all the time. It's still my preference to hold a real book and fill my shelves with good reads to lend or give to friends when I'm done.
ReplyDeleteMage: Is that true about the shallow water walking? I could do that. A group meets every Friday at the local pool.
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought a book in so long I can't remember when I last did. At some point I found I didn't need to won them. Now I just go to the library.
ReplyDeleteThat book on the Irish race is kind of cartoonish or like a bible. Have you read How the Irish Saved Civilization? Much better and more credible.
ReplyDeleteGot to do something with those Bill Cosby books. Might as well make a statement. What a joke, the one on marriage!
I love the placement of those top books. And I'm with you on having physical books vs. digital ones. But I resist buying more right now unless it's really special. I have run out of room and need to prune my collection!
