we do glorify motherhood. my mother had three kids and she, like all women back then, as a teenager/young adult fantasized about having a family. only trouble was, turned out she really didn't like small children. she claimed to like teenagers but I think that's when she stopped maturing. by the time I became a teenager, I didn't like her very much.
I loved looking at the old black n white photos of High school summer fun my Mom had in the attic- Wish I had them to wonder about again. Hope your Mother's Day went well- n all the kids at least checked in with you. I hope there's a few beauty shots of you somewhere for them to wonder about someday!
I see the resemblance (from the very few glimpses I've had of you and what I've created in my mind). I remember thinking they looked so old in high school, probably because the style was old-fashioned!
Yes, she is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYes, too, that's life with my mother. She was 40 when she had me, and I would have liked to know her before she began drinking.
In my case it was before she became so tired and angry about life. She was a tea-totaler in my favor.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! She looks so mature, too.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. It was such a different world back in 1939. I also wonder what she was thinking about.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful. And very serene looking as if her life was calm and happy.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful...
ReplyDeleteMy mother
a teenager when she had me.
Difficult life for her and me.

ReplyDeleteNice photo and very much older looking than a teen.

She looks unusual and it's not just the dress and hat and hairdo. Can't pin it down.
ReplyDeleteShe was so pretty! Jealous of that hat. Do you have the brooch, by any chance?
ReplyDeleteLovely! She looks like a very mature teenager. Much more mature than teenagers today, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you what she was not thinking: I will have a daughter who will put me on the WWW in 2015. :)
ReplyDeleteShe was dolled up when this taken. Perhaps a date or special occasion.
ReplyDeletePretty!

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty, classic, thoughtful looking woman!
