Caught Up

I have gotten all my "stuff" correctly scheduled and am lucky enough to have a few days in between each major activity to sit and read, or cook, or daydream before hurrying out once again.

I have also had time to ponder the blogs that I read instead of hurrying through them in order to be sure I do not miss anything.  As a result, I have noticed that some of "my" bloggers are a little low in spirit.  Some come right out and write about it, while others are more enigmatic about some struggle they or a loved one is having.  Deaths in the family, job losses, fights with relatives on Facebook, and serious health problems are all written about or maybe hinted at depending on whether the writer is bold or shy.  This is where Blogger falls short in a way.  We can get something off our chest and feel a sense of relief, but does it help when we return to the real world?  We can take some good advice from the wisdom of individuals in the general blogdom, but does that truly help?  For some of us perhaps, but I really wish I could look the writer in the eye and put my arm on their shoulder and bring them something sweet and decadent and just sit until the conversation could flow.  I would not have any fancy answers or successful suggestions, but I would have real concern to convey and a love of man(woman)kind to share and let them know how important they are in the grand scheme of things.

We all are in this rocky boat, and some get more seasick than others, and that is when it really is hard to hang on tightly.  If you are one of those please note that I have a sincere and loving look on my face right now and I am reaching out to place my hand on yours until the seas calm, even if they do so only ever-so-briefly.

  3. There are those times when a personal touch is needed. I think it is great that you put the thought and the intention out there. I often wonder if words I mean as comfort get perceived that way. We are dealing with some we have never actually met and yet they mean something to us.

  4. Hey Tabor girl, you really need to give me your email---you know you're my star-tip sister, right? :d It is not original to me---I got it from Facebook. It was quoted as 'anonymous' so I took the liberty because, after all, don't we all need to know and try to remember this???? :d I say copy it. :)

  6. So true, hugs, or just a real voice on the phone can give such comfort.

  8. I too like to be touching the person that something tells me they need in that time and place. I have been wrong about their need, but not very often.
    Good post, hugs your way!

  9. A kind heart and a show of concern - your special brand of listening is very healing even if you are not close by.

  10. If/when I am in need of comforting, I hope you find me. You obviously know how to do it.

  11. Words For It
    by Julia Cameron

I wish I could take language
And fold it like cool, moist rags.
I would lay words on your forehead.
I would wrap words on your wrists.
"There, there," my words would say,
    Or something better.
I would ask them to murmur,
"Hush" and "Shh, shh, it's all right."
I would ask them to hold you all night.
I wish I could take language
And daub and soothe and cool
    Where fever blisters and burns,
Where fever turns yourself against you.
I wish I could take language
And heal the words that were the wounds
    You have no names for.

  14. Awww that's just lovely. And it's exactly how I have been feeling as I wend my way though some of my favourite blogs. I'm sure your message has been/will be well heard. I love how this community makes friends out of strangers. And MessyMimi, I love the poem you posted in your comment.

  15. Yes, I believe it does help. Some keep journals just for themselves, and writing in these does help. I'm in the "I don't care who reads it" camp, and any writing, I've found, is better than no writing. Yes, I would love a hug in the midst of my chaos. I'm just grateful that all I have is chaos. Hugs back.

  16. Excellent post. Thanks!!! I have been going through some stress --if you have read some of my blog posts. I stopped blogging for a week --and got a handle on myself. My middle son is going through a horrible divorce and I am so worried about him. Then, taking care of George's Daddy has gotten stressful since he requires so much care now. Sad to get to almost 101 --and have very little quality of life.

Anyhow---we all go through it. That's just LIFE. I am doing much better now --and try to keep a good balance in my life.

    Thanks!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. Yes, and writing is tricky, too, because expressions of sympathy are not always well conveyed and can lead to misunderstandings.

  18. What a lovely thought. We do become friends here, even if we've never met except through our written words. I'm in a happy place these days but love the idea of your caring enough to extend such kindness.

Tabor, thank you for this entry.
Catching up on entries missed while computer was down.
Much company this weekend and this one's health has been rocky lately.
    Needed your personal touch.
    You are special to me...

  23. What a beautiful sentiment. Sometimes I can feel those warm hugs or hand holds right through the blogosphere. Congrats on your POTW mention also! :)

  24. Ah, yes, so very true.
I guess sometimes for me I just need to get it out there.....and in the last year, with my headache troubles, and subsequent two surgeries, it did help a lot to get support and encouragement from all the friends I have met through my blog.
I had to just imagine the hugs.:)

So sweet. I often feel the same way (on both sides!) and do feel comforted by my blog friends, and hope I offer them some comfort in return. Congrats on the POTW. I'm glad you got it so I didn't miss this!
