A Few Last Words

This will be the last post on my project for a while.   I will try to provide more interesting fodder for my readers on other subjects in future posts.   But I have continued to write on this story...there seems to be endless research that interrupts my every sentence.  Thus far I have researched flora in Australia, bakery goods in Australia, aboriginal names, and more on geology, mining, and mineral values than I will ever put into any book.  But it seems one must be able to swim in the deep waters before heading out to the cleaner parts of the pool.  (Geesh...what a weird analogy.)  Granny was correct in commenting that many have files of well-intentioned stories that seem to be still born.  But I am enjoying this project thus far and setting aside some time each morning to work on it.  It even is competing with my morning light photography of birds!  By the way, I actually sold a photo as a greeting card this week.  It is not about the money CLEARLY...just such a reward that someone wanted to buy a work that I created!  Well, I have to head out as hubby is banging dishes about in the kitchen and the day is well underway.

  1. Congratulations on the photo sale. I hope the story keeps moving along. You'll end up with a story and be prepared for a trip to Australia.

  6. Have you thought about creating a blog that is just for your project. That keeps it consistent without an interruption of other topics and lets those who are particularly interested stick with it. It also enables you to write different ideas that don't relate to it.

I would never do well writing something that I posted as it went as I redo so much all the way. I get say 25,000 words which is about 1/4 of what it'll be, and go back and start filling in this or that or realize I had a missed point or had changed something one place and not another. I'd never want anybody looking at it as it went along; but I have seen such projects and they do develop followings. To me though if they aren't in their own blog, the readers lose consistency with it also.

  7. Rain,I have already changed some things and find I need to add new information in some areas that I left out. And, as I am sure you know, these things take on a little life of their own and start heading off in different directions. But I hope it doesn't become like herding goats! I may post it on a blog as I progress for feedback...but not yet. The project is still too immature.

  8. Good luck with it. There is only one way to write-- even with these blogs. Just do it and things do develop as you go along. I get a regular email from Writers Digest that is free and often has tips from various writers. I don't know if it changes anything I'm doing but it's interesting to see those other ideas.

  9. Actually, I like your water analogy. It resonates with my language learning experience.

  10. Kudos on the sale! That would be an ego boost. You have some amazing shots.

Good luck on the writing. Much more disciplined than I. Hmmm, sounds like I may have a new years resolution to introduce. Discipline!
