Are You Getting Enough Water?

The world goes around. The seasons change. I am fully aware this will continue even when I die and after I die.  There is nothing special about a human that stops the movement of the universe.

My days are filled with less in the way of successes or progress or something to be proud of.  I cook and then I eat what I cook.  Pandemic or not, old white ladies must have our food.  I admit that I am eating far more vegetables because I refuse to throw out good food.  People are starving, you know!

Beets and fennel for roasting.

If you think you have the worst of it these days please watch this 12-minute PBS report on a desperate journey following people who REALLY have the worst of it this year.  I guarantee you will be very thankful.

I have completed my request for an absentee ballot.  Hubby is driving it up to the election office to drop off since we can no longer depend on secure and speedy mail delivery.  He will park outside the election office and phone from his car and they will come out to pick up the request.  We can vote fairly early and there are election boxes to put your ballot into.  We have quite a few spread across our county.

One of the counties to the north of us just shut down all their testing sites due to questions on the protocol they were using.  Everyone who was tested in the last two weeks must now get tested again!

have put in a request to see a specialist for my ongoing cough/allergy issue.  It has not gotten worse but has not gotten better.  I don't know if I can meet directly.

A TV doctor did say today that a child getting a serious Covid illness or dying from Covid is pretty rare, like getting struck by lightning or hit by a car.  He did not mention that the child would be standing out in the middle of a thunderstorm or in the middle of the street to actually validate this comparison to going to an enclosed classroom every day.

Well, I must go and fold the clean sheets.  I love having clean sheets on the bed!  I am so thankful that I can do that, and the water flow to my washer is phenomenal, thank you very much!

  1. I don't know if I want to watch that show. I have enough trouble trying to stay positive in my own situation. But thank you for giving me the option. I love your posts and enjoy hearing your thoughts. :-)

  2. As a matter of fact, lately hydrating has been lax. The food! Oh dear, potatoes look marvelous! Every day growing...do the potatoes...except on spagetti Wednesday and Friday fish. Today, carbs are very limited.

I watched the PBS New Hour report last night. Wow! Powerful piece. Unbelievable what those adults and children endure, the abuse, being robbed, starvation, raging rivers to cross, beaten and violated. It is bone chilling heartbreak. Those horrific conditions make what we are going through in America today feel like a backyard barbeque with tons of potato salad, and designer beers.

  5. We forget sometimes about the millions of people who would love to swap places with us. And when I can't think of anyone I want to swap places with I know I'm one of the lucky ones. Those poor people in that video - heartbreaking. Your food looks delicious! (Maybe I'd swap places with you at dinnertime!)

  6. In spite of it all we are really lucky. I'm not starving and I'm getting my groceries delivered to my door. Drink lots of water. Two women friends of mine ended up in the ER to be re-hydrated. I keep a 5 cup pitcher on my counter I empty every day to be sure I don't just forget. I eating spuds out of my son's garden. Bumper crop this year.

  9. We can always find someone worse off than us. I hope you can vote successfully and I hope you get a better leader next time.

  10. I am so glad about the water brought to you by a president who cares about these things, even if he cares about little else of value.

  11. I am very fortunate in my isolation and I know it. I love baked tomatoes and I hardly ever think about cooking them. sure you have enough water in your washer, but do you have enough water to wash your hair?

  12. I am so very lucky in my stay at homeness. One thought occurred to me, I can cook again. I'm enjoying that a lot. but now days I sit. I'll let you know when I can stand. When this is all over, will I want to go back to being social?

  13. The world is full of those who have so little. Not sure what can ever be done about it as often with some countries, it you donate to them, the depots take it. The world is such a mix of kindness and meanness. And for most of us violence comes randomly if it comes at all.

Your cooking looks delicious! I always feel it is meaningful to see how others have it in life, to set our minds straight and to help others instead of worrying about ourselves. Especially if you visit a hospital, there are such sad cases. It puts life into perspective. Andrea

    1. That is why we have charities.

I was thinking more in the terms of outlook in life. I think it would be helpful to one's mind to see how others have it in order to not be self-centered and depressed in life. Helping others can put others first instead of worrying about ourselves. As for charities, I am very picky and like to give to the most poor; as St. mother Teresa would say "the poorest of the poor". 17. Yes, we white old ladies are fortunate. Will we remember how fortunate when things go back to normal? Normal? what’s that? I hope the new normal will be better than the old. Over here many people are desperate for the new ’normal’ in the US from November onwards. I also know that the whole of Germany is praying for the demise from office of the lying, cheating, incompetent moron; even the ones who don’t think of praying as something to do normally.

  18. I think "normal" is overrated. What is normal. It is just what we have accepted as a process for a lengthy time...but that will always change. We certinaly need to wrap our arms around chnage...upsetting, unsettling, odd, and weird though it is. I am glad that Europe has realize they are the leaders of their own destiny. We will be back to support friendship, but for now you are at the rudder.

  19. When that PBS video was aired I had just turned to that channel, which I never do at that time. It was as if I needed to see it. Yes, it broke my heart, but what can I do about it other than be as generous as I can be with my tithes, and praying for the poor souls in this world full of stark contrasts. The major news networks rarely report on anything like that - we know so little of what's really going on around the world unless we seek it out. The BBC news seems to do a better job of it, via our PBS stations.

A thought - could your cough be coming from a blood pressure medication? It happened to me - a change in meds cured the cough. Post nasal drip causes all kinds of trouble, though, which is a big problem with me now. Could it be the result of suffering seasonal allergies all my life so that now in my end years it ends up with this irritating problem, where I lose my voice when I try to speak at times. What's a mother to do???? I wish you health and happiness!!!

  20. Food looks delicious! Yes, we don't know what hardship is, but then everything is relative. There is no such thing as normal.
