Stuff You May Not Know

While our illustrious leader is trying to keep the numbers down for infection in this country, he has explained that he really understands "this stuff" probably due to his fantastic genius gene pool. I understand, folks, that he does sound racist, but it is just "straight talk."

Anyway, I am sure you all have moved your laptops to the sink so you can wash your hands every 15 minutes while blogging, but be sure you do not knock the electronics into the sink. I am not the genius that our illustrious leader is, but I do grasp the concept of water and electricity as something not good!

If you are flying and wearing a mask, please let all us bloggers know how you are handling the eating and drinking part.  I have a plane trip in June and I am guessing this may not be on the wane by then.

I actually like the elbow bump greeting and the bowing greeting as one is joyously young and reflective: a coolness and the other is proper and dignified.  I think I can pull off either at my garden meeting next week.

On February 26 the President said the following:  "[W]hen you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."  As of March 8 and 15 minutes of the writing, we now have 500 cases of Covid 19 in the U.S.  He is a genius, but not a whiz at math.  One of the cases is just 60 miles north of where I live.

Am I panicking?  Not for me or even for my family.  I do panic for that younger minimum wage worker that has to meet the public every day and who has no healthcare.  He/she just needs to hold on until the GOP brings that Replace part of the Repeal for their healthcare.  It is unfortunate they could not get it passed when they had control of both Houses of Congress for two years.  Now the politicians have brought it down to theater like wearing gas masks during sessions of Congress.  (Course that guy has a few drunk driving issues, so I understand why a virus would be a joke for him.)

I may very well get it--the virus.  I mean just count how many times you touch something that someone else has touched on a normal day out...your credit card, the gas pump, the door handles of every building you enter, the buttons on elevators, the faucets and toilet handles, the glasses the waitress/waiter places on your table, the plates that are touched on the edges by God knows how many people, the seat rails on trains and metros, the handrails of escalators and stairs.  Even every can of beans, carton of milk, a container of eggs and container of gum may have been handled just a few hours before by someone who is asymptomatic or just slightly tired and fighting the virus.  Of course, they recommend that you wear gloves, but I also know that I am very touchy-feely with my face!  Spend an hour and count how many times you want to scratch your nose or wipe your eyes.

Are you terrified yet?  One woman at a Trump rally quoted a Psalm explaining why she had no fear and that she would be safe.  I do not know my Bible...not even sure where that lovely white tome with the gold edges is...!  I am sure I could not find the Psalm and God just shakes his head at me when I ask questions, although Psalms was my favorite when I was a teenager.

Well, we got an email today from a woman who was supposed to go on our wood duck box maintenance trek and said she had to bow out.  She had met up with some friends who had been on travel several days ago and yesterday she had a sore throat and was feeling "pecky".

Keep me posted and for certainty...move that laptop aside and go wash you hands.

  1. Definitely not terrified, but am being cautious and trying to follow the guidelines. They make sense.. although no guarantees. I do believe that if we can get through March and April with some control, that we just may be over the worst of it. This may be wishful thinking, but hey, gloom and doom doesn't help. You do what you can... and the rest is out of our hands. Stay well Tabor!

  2. Don't forget about that filthy lucre: money handled by who knows how many people? It's probable that many of us will get it, we are so intertwined with our surroundings. Sigh. I'll be careful and hope I don't get it. :-(

  3. We have a trip planned for next week, the first in six years. Such rotten luck! Wash those hands!

  4. Tabor = I smile at your comment on my sharing about my son expected to fly from Thailand next Friday to be with me, you commented
"do not worry." You were the first to comment to this one about 13 years ago when I started sharing.
I will say "you know me well "bless you."

  5. Prayers you and yours do not get the virus or any illness.

Hand sanitizer by the desk is safer. I eat cheese puffs with a fork because it keeps my fingers free of cheese dust. The bag! Empty the bag wearing gloves, and wash hands afterwards. Any time I have to do errands, I ask myself if I really need to get whatever is on the list. I took it too far. Two nights in a row, I ended up with nothing for dinner. Yay for cereal.

  6. Oh yes... I’m freaking out all right. We have a cruise to Scandinavia scheduled for a couple of months from now. What to do? What to do?

  7. But my laptop only has my germs on it and it has not been out of the house in months. When my hands leave the house and come back in, they get washed. So I think my laptop is safe, even it I'm not.
Not to worry, anyway. Dr. Trump says it will all go away in April.

  8. Don't forget the Star Trek greeting option. :)

I am a face-toucher (my own, I mean), but I think I can come close to eliminating it while I am out shopping. I'm nt sure that I could manage on a longer excursion such as a meal out.

  9. I thought I sensed a bit of skepticism over the enlightened pronouncements of our ever so enlightened leader? Anyway the image of eating cheese puffs with a fork is going to make me giggle all day so I won't have time to worry.

I just wish people would cover their mouth when they cough. Even just for a cold....which I don't care to have. I think people had more manners in the past than now. It's just common sense that more people could get this flu due to not having a vaccine out for it. I am a Trump fan, and most people in rural Pennsylvania are. I always vote pro-life. Andrea

    1. That issue is the most complicated in all our politics. I respect your view, but I am almost certain Trump would pay for an abortion.

  11. As someone who has not been able to do the flu shot for over 40 years, this hasn't changed much for how I have to operate during flu season. I am in the age group most at risk but I am also for heart disease, cancer, etc. etc. I have a friend whose husband has a weird illness that doctors can't diagnose but it might be ALS. Maybe other elders are more worried but i just figure I am bound to go sooner than younger people and am glad it's that way. I though am not one who desired cruises or to travel to foreign countries; so I am not limited since my main places to dream of being are wilderness oriented. It though might play havoc with our investments but our financial guys sees it like we do-- just ride it out as who knows what impacts the stock market and a lot, like say Saudi Arabia and Russia in an oil 'war'. By 76, I kind of feel i have to roll with it or let everything et to me.

    2. Well, in Tucson, I am not. This place is in Oro Valley. The house though is nicely isolated by the acre of desert around it. When we have to travel north by mid June, we'll be doing it with the trailer. My husband can get the flu shot as he has no allergies and I have been able to get the pneumonia shots with no problems, which hopefully cuts my risk some from at least the regular flu.

  13. I'm not worried. I live in a small town and don't ever go anywhere anyway. Trump is such a fool. all he wants to do is control the narrative, not the pandemic. he thinks if he can convince people that it's few and far between here then no one will get sick.

  14. I love your humour and we need it now more than panic. It is a concern to us because of our age and hubby's illnesses. We had planned a short cruise this week but Our daughter's were very worried for us and I managed to get a back flare up of arthritis so we cancelled the cruise. Your president is a worry I'll say no more. We have idiots here panic buying. There are no more toilet rolls available in the shops anywhere. There have been lots of jokes on social media about it. This not touching your face is not possible with me.So hoping it stays away from our village. Unfortunately our winter is coming and the prediction is the virus will worsen then.Something to look forward too. Stay safe and send me some toilet paper.

  15. It has not reached our small town yet the hysteria, and am perfectly capable of washing my hands (when I remember). The government are taking it easy in this country because of the economic turn down. We will see if it becomes a disaster or not. Stay safe.

  16. Caution is proper, as with any infection we could catch. The best precautions are the usual ones, including staying home if you are sick (which so many of us can't do because then we lose pay and can't make the bills).

  17. I take comfort in knowing my President only has to say the right words and it is so because he’s a genius and his gut tells him what is best. Just think of all the money we can save in taxes if we just rid ourselves of all those scientists and specialists in other areas of government, when all we have to do is ask Trump. He’s likely even passed on this uncanny ability to some, if not all, of his offspring. Maybe even an in-law has absorbed by osmosis through association this ability...skill...talent — what is it?

Guess we just play-by-ear what each of us is most comfortable doing in terms of mixing with others, traveling, then we live with the unknown consequences. Perhaps each day will shed more light on the choices we want to make in the weeks, months ahead. Will warm weather in the U.S. cause the virus to retract a bit? Will it return when cold weather returns in the coming year? We will learn one way or the other ... eventually.

    1. Yes, we can be relieved as K. Conway said days ago that it was all contained by him. We are soooooo lucky.

    2. It has been said by those expensive scientists that it will return, and now there seems to be another strain.
