Snow Birding

My husband holds off as long as he can before he becomes adamant that we will visit his homeland for at least a few weeks.  He squeezes in a few "meetings" on the trip but the rest of the time is canoeing and fishing down there.  I pull him away for a nice restaurant or two, maybe a museum and most certainly a nature preserve where we tiptoe among the alligators.  Are we not the boring old folks I swore I would never become?  We could fit nicely into one of those pharmaceutical ads...the ones about blood pressure or constipation, not the ones about sex.  Yes, it is Florida once again.  No, I am not excited.  I am jaded and our weather here has been mild enough that I do not have cabin fever.  Since we will be driving down with one of the canoes tied precariously to the top of his big car the drive must be carefully done.  We will stop at a few places along the way, where he allows me my photography jaunts.

I will be taking my laptop and maybe find time for posting.  Nothing creates a death knell for a tedious blog more than not posting fairly often!  I will try to find something more interesting to post about than beach sunsets and water birds and retirement living in the South, but there are no guarantees.  (I would rather be in the wild west, but that is just me.) I will also write some posts ahead to go live while we are on the road.

Please keep an eye on the house and house plants while we are gone.  These have been narrowed way down over the years.  No pets, with good reason, as we travel far too often for far too long for that kind of responsibility.

  1. Oh My---you are the 2nd blogger I've heard from today who is leaving for Florida.. I'm so envious. BUT--so far, winter here this year has not been bad at all. But---a wonderful trip to Florida now would be awesome... Enjoy it for me. Okay?

  4. Hope you have a wonderful time! Love the plant room, but we are putting out some silk flowers this year, as we are packing up the dogs and going to Maine for six weeks this summer.
They are good travelers and adapt well to new surroundings, but the plants can't survive in Texas without constant water.

  7. Your husband stops the car on route from Point A to Point B?? For longer than it takes to fill a tank and empty a bladder??

  10. O you poor thing, but someone has to go on these frequent holidays.

What do you mean, his homeland? Last time I looked Florida was well and truly part of the US.

Have a good time. Say hello to the alligators for me.

  11. I gave up on house plants but not giving up on pets. We are thinking in terms of next fall and Yellowstone maybe down into New Mexico and back to Chaco again :). We hope. For us, it'll be the trailer though and taking the cats... who definitely would rather not go.

  13. That is considerate of your husband to stop along the way for you to take pictures. When we used to drive down to FL with four kids, we all knew the rules. The car only stopped for gas ( which was also a pit stop) and a quick lunch at McDonalds. We would make it from PA to Savanah, GA for dinner.

    Now we fly.

Enjoy the sunshine and warm weather. So many of us are stuck in the snow and ice.

  14. What a lovely room! I think, actually, it would be fun to do the Florida romp sometime. But I have got to say that our upcoming trip to Cuba has me almost comatose with excitement!

  15. I love to hear the adventures of those who travel while I become more and more agoraphobic and just want to stay curled in a ball in my house. Have a wonderful time for me too.

Beautiful plants- mine are drying out every day now in this dry heated interior. There are a few blossoms tho.

    Enjoy that warm place!

  19. Lovely windows, and a lovely view. Yes, mam, we will feed the birds and watch the dust mites in action. :) So sorry you don't want to go. Yes, the west is a far more comfortable place this time of year.

  20. Love your sunroom! I'm sure we can cyber water your plants. LOL.

You make me laugh: "boring old people that we've become " or something like that. Yes those pharmaceutical ads for BP pills and constipation. LOL. Fits right in. And forget Viagra.

I'd never get tired of beach sunsets and water birds. They are a treat to me, so post away (if you feel so inclined).

Enjoy - we're sitting at minus 25 C or minus 13 on your scale. Brrrrr.
    Safe travels.
