A Favor for Tabor

I will be spending most of the day at the Children's Garden tomorrow as part of an environmental expo for the county.  I will be on my feet all day as will my hubby.  We have helpers to work with the little kids, so I am hoping the day will not be too chaotic.

Today has been one of those days where I have been running from pillar to post.  Grocery shopping, then moving gravel and soil at the Children's Garden and tidying it all up for the coming exposition and then getting the lists and sign-up sheets and all that bureaucratic stuff ready for tomorrow.

Tonight we have sorted various plants and pots for the kids to plant tomorrow.

I just made stuffed peppers and roast potatoes and I am heading for the bathtub while dinner cooks.  Oh is that bubble bath calling my name!

I really need some down time, but not seeing a break in activities until Thursday or Friday!  I sat for just a minute on my deck yesterday and was so sad when I realized I had not had time to do some spring migration bird watching.  Not one bit!  A few of the bird houses have occupants, but I am too busy to enjoy even that.  I grab a small handful of meal worms and dump them on the front door of the blue bird house and then make sure the seed feeders have feed these next few weeks.  But mostly, I have been working hard on the yard getting ready for a yard visit by a bay wise check group in about 10 days! This is an important visit that I have promised this group for over a year.  I hope I pass their test, but what they really want to see is a living shoreline that we put in.

Do me a favor.  Scratch all that stuff off your list and enjoy spring for me.  Tell me what you see and how you feel.  Thank you.

  3. Well this makes me want a bubble bath myself.
Here in Oregon we have an extended spring. Since you ask, right now there are finches at the feeder, the lawn is growing like crazy, the rhodies are all abloom. Yesterday was very warm, but today is chilly.
I hope you get to enjoy your own back yard very soon!

  4. We've had a wonderful spring with flowers blooming everywhere and the green approach overload with all the trees and bushes almost leafed out. I have enjoyed all the lovely days and often spent some time sitting in the front garden to watch the birds. The swallows are doing battle over the birdhouses and we bought two more this week from the redwood place. Since our big barn collapsed, they have needed places to nest as the metal roofs don't do so well for them-- they make lovely nests but they often fall from the slipper metal.

We shear tomorrow but I don't do that. That's the boss's job along with the shearer who has been down in Roseburg doing big flocks but he makes time for our mere 40 head.

  5. Yes, sometimes we are all just too busy to enjoy life (and Spring)... The yardwork is fun --but sometimes, I'd much rather be watching the birds... BUT--that just doesn't always happen...

You are doing a great ministry with the kids --so don't forget that... Hopefully, your busyness will slow down some and you can enjoy some of the other things you have missed... Tis Life --isn't it?
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. We've had a few warm days here in Portland (90 degrees) but today it's cloudy and tomorrow it's supposed to rain. So much for nice weather.

  8. Got up to 82 in Walla Walla but seems rain is on its way again. flowers out everywhere, hills are green with just a streak of snow across the tops. Those kids are lucky to have you there doing for them, I don't think I could keep up with you. Peace and hugs.

  9. OK, I'm working on it! And I know you will find joy in all of the giving that you are doing. One day your time will be your own again, and you will feel very good about yourself.

  10. I feel so lucky that my bedroom window opens wide into the branches of three glorious maple trees. One of my deepest joys is to bring my morning coffee back to my "treehouse"bed, prop up my pillows, and contemplate life while watching the changes outside. Every day, every season for twelve years. Scarlet in fall, grey and glistening with ice and snow in winter, moving from red buds to luxurious green leaves in spring and summer. Rainy days and Sun days never disappoint. I love the sound of breezy days, and windy days can be downright thrilling! My morning ritual is my anchor. Thanks for asking!

  11. My best communion with nature is when I mow. It gives me a sense of calm. These days it is joy to watch the birds that appear to swoop in and devour what I unearth in my turns around the property. I always think of you when I spot an unusual bird paying a quick visit when the chickens are not watching:)

  12. My ritual similar to LR. Up before dawn, every window is a beautiful view, birds begin to come to feeders and total peace
    saturates this one.'
Slow down and take care of Tabor as time is moving so fast in this lifetime of ours...

  16. I'm still waiting for spring to arrive although my first daffodil of the season finally blossomed today. The grass is green and will need a mowing very soon. My son is still here and he does an excellent job on the lawn.

  17. All that you do is so wonderful.. but do a little something for your own self. In the meantime, I'll enjoy some spring for you if it stops raining.

  18. I've been in the city for nearly 3 weeks and am now seriously starting to miss whatever is going on in my garden. The weather has grown so much cooler since I left home, I wonder how much the grass has grown. I'll be home again at the end of the week - can't wait.

  22. This busy stuff is for the birds! I had a weekend like that ... 3 big events and two to cover and my women's dialogue. Today is recovery and tomorrow maybe I'll be useful at something! I am mostly listening to their songs and trying to soak that up.

  23. "Make" the time.It may be important for then to see your shoreline, but it's important for your sanity to sit on your deck and bird watch.

Yes, I know how valuable he is. He spoils me too. I reciprocate as best I can. That jewlery box is a gem now when before it was just confusion. :)

  26. Those moments breathing in, breathing out, watching for that which may need to be noticed...this is how we pause to give thanks for the beauty around...that is the grounding for what is most important in our busy days, is it not? That and the memory....when the busy shoves in too much.

  27. I hope your Children's Garden project went well. You sound busy, and I hope you can soon take time to Take care of yourself.

  28. So did you survive besides eating too much? :)
Here I see too much green. It pleases me to spot brown lawns now among the green at last. Perhaps they finally realize that we are deep into a drought. Here on this coast, we are in such trouble yet most still garden in this desert. Spring here needs to be browner.

  29. I'd be glad too, but need a crowbar to fit in Hanging Around without Doing needed Chores- Well, did get to stand on the deck in pm sunshine 5 minutes with Mischief at least- then back to grocery unbagging n laundry hanging. Have seen so many birds today- they are having a spring party!
Hope you get to hang around soon!

  30. A bay wise check group? Be sure to post about it to let us know what they did.

I want the birds to hang out in my yard, too! I've gotta entice them some way. Food? :)
