Well, here is the follow-up. It rained ceaselessly the whole evening. My son and I did get lost and he had a GPS on his phone...he is just a bad navigator telling you about a turn as you miss it! We also discovered that there are TWO places in the area with very similar names and we had headed to the wrong one. We still made it to the Keb Mo show on time. Food was awful as it always is at that theatre but it is intimate seating and so you feel close to the stage. On the way back to drop him off I did goof and turned onto a one-way street, but since the traffic was thin at 11:00 P.M., we survived that screw-up as well. AND as you can surmise from this post, I did make it back out of the city, but the drive was somewhat tense as pouring rain and glaring headlights meant I had to really concentrate the whole hour and a half on the way home. It was worth it to head bob with Keb Mo and to sit with my son.
Oh, I hate to drive at night in the rain! I would have ended up with a migraine. Glad you made it back safe and sound and now you have a wonderful memory with the son to add to it. I'm going to have to check out Keb' Mo'.
ReplyDeleteI might have gotten a hotel room until the rain stopped or daylight resumed. I cannot drive in the rain at night unless it is in my own neighborhood and I am familiar with the roads.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought about a hotel as there were many in the area, but it seemed such a cowardly move, giving in to my age. So I squinted and actually drove just 5 miles below the speed limit and got home before midnight and then turned back into Cindergirl. I love that son of mine so much I would drive through a fire!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, you did it and had a great memory of time spend with your son. The minor messes will soon be forgotten. Himself's whole family is directional challenged, but more than a few interesting side trips have come from it. lol
ReplyDeleteI probably would have done the same thing. But I sure do not like driving in the rain - especially at night.
ReplyDeleteThen our son - I have one - Why are they so dear, so special and so loved. Have daughter's too and all are loved. But one son - just seems extra special.
Driving in the rain can be scary. I recall driving through Salina Kansas a couple years back and the rain was coming down harder than I had ever seen in my life. My husband was sleeping on the passenger side and I was so tense. I drove for about an hour and then got a hotel room and Sasha kept me up all night because of thunder and lightning and I had to get on the floor and huddle her just so I could go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun and made it home safe.
I quit driving at night many years ago and I would have been panic stricken to get lost on such a night.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that sll's well and ended well. I am also glad it was worth it.
Sons are the best!!!! Glad you made it back...
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it despite the problems. I do not know Keb Mo. Am I old? (yes)
ReplyDeleteGPS: Getting People Lost With Accuracy For Over Twenty Years. Wait, is that my turn?
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your comment on LooseLeaf it made me wonder if it was really Thursday because I'm in a time warp too! I see from this post why you were confused. Too much head banging or raining while driving.
ReplyDeleteMy son is the one that got me to learn to contra dance which turned out to be great fun once I got over my trauma of not knowing whether to spin left or right.
I hate to drive at night, with good or bad weather.
ReplyDeleteGlad you have a nice night with your son and return home safe.
What an adventure. Welcome home. Know I am smiling at your description.
ReplyDeleteI don't drive but driving in the rain is too troublesome. I'm glad you got home safe.
