Seeing into the Future

As I photographed this baby-beauty a few weeks ago, I captured this moment in time. Tell me if you cannot see the sultry and sexual beauty she will become someday. She will break a few hearts and I can only hope her heart will not be broken too often.

No, I do not see a "sultry and sexual" beauty that will break hearts and have a broken heart. I am uncomfortable with sexualizing and objectifying this little one. I see hope, adventure, brilliance.

I knew you would get the typical Victorian comments about the Purity of Childhood.

Congratulations for letting your observations ground themselves in reality instead of conventional, unexamined puritanism.

So many cultures would have no problem seeing what you see, but here you are 'sexualizing' her.

  5. Wow! Her eyes are like liquid pools of beauty. The boys are going to melt.

"Anonymous" needs to lighten up a bit.

Nothing puritanical about it. It is rooted in the contemporary crisis of child rape (1 in 6 children will be sexually abused in their lifetimes)!I work daily with these children, and these children when they are adults. They are broken. From babyhood people have commented on their looks, futures as sexual partners tried to fix them up with other little people. Can't children be children instead of mini-adults -- acting out our own imaginations?

  8. It's strange that people can project the adult that the child will turn into. I've done this too, until I finally learned that so many beautiful children's looks change completely when they go through puberty, that now I know that I can't possibly predict what they'll look like. I find so many children beautiful, that I don't see anything exceptional here.
