Action vs Reaction

Continuing on a theme from the prior post.

This is why (not really) that I no longer go to church.  I wonder what the parishioners' "helping the poor" programs are like, because in spite of their misinterpretation of that quote from the Bible, Jesus did preach that we help the poor.  Do they offer free gun training or free ammunition to poor families at Christmas?  It reminds me of the dorm at the Colorado University that was set aside this year for students who wanted to bring their guns to college.  Keeping a concealed weapon is so important to learning.  No one signed up, which gave me hope that we were not returning to the uncivilized wild west where we must be ready to defend ourselves daily using violence.  There are those who live in fear of almost everything and need to stock up on food, water, guns and prayer with the belief that victory goes to those who are prepared for the very worst.  There are those who feel there is a master plan of which we are a small part or if no master plan is unfolding, then we must accept that each day is an energy of events and we can control it to a small extent by the way we live our lives.  But the greater control we have is how we react over time to what happens to us.  You know which one I am.

  1. Lord have mercy on all of us, for we are getting off the main road and leaving civilization behind! You seem to be clear headed though, with or without religious associations.

  3. I'm glad at least to learn of the empty dorm in Colorado. That's good news.

  5. I do not know for sure that it is still the case, but at one time here in VT it was illegal to walk to church on Sunday morning without your rifle. I think the likelihood of being attacked by a bear was fairly high or something like that.

  6. i agree that jesus commands about caring for the poor are at the heart of his message and to be taken most seriously.

as for the college allowing weapons. are you sure it's not to facilitate hunting? also are they not required to have them properly secured? my daughter took her rifle to college and it had to be locked up with campus security. she took it so she could hunt locally without having to make an 70 mile trip home first. we hunt in order to fill the freezer. just a thought that some of it may be related to hunting.

  7. I shake my head in amazement at what the world has come to - have we (too many among us)completely lost our sanity???? I enjoy reading your blog (don't often comment though) because you often tell me about things that I (in my protected corner of the world) am not familiar with. Bless you (with no religious inferences intended) just a plain wish for your good health and happiness.
